Instagram Hiding Likes for The U.S | What does it mean?

Overview: News broke from the WIRED25 Conference when Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, announced that Instagram will begin hiding likes as soon as next week for U.S users.

We see a lot of users making jokes at “Instagram models” expense, saying their out of a job, which couldn’t be further from the truth. The first thing to be clear is that Instagram is not taking likes away, you will still be able to like posts and people will still be able to like your posts, you will still be able to see all the likes that you get, but other people won’t.

This will no doubt cause a change in the game.

It will be interesting to see how everything plays out. Models and Influencers will be able to take screenshots and show them to brands to prove their getting likes when brokering deals. But, something I’m curious about, which may not play a factor at all, but we will see if “herd mentality” plays a role in the level of engagement that occurs.

Vanity Metrics will be in the form of comments in the public users mind.

Why This is a good thing: This is a good thing for a number of reasons. The main ones, which Instagram are pushing as their main motivators in this action are mental health and content. They don’t want people stressing over likes, they want it to be less of a popularity contest and more of what it was supposed to be.

Mosseri said the move is aimed at young people. “The idea is to depressurize Instagram, make it less of a competition,” he said, in remarks given at the Wired 25 Conference.

Which leads into the “content”, if people are stressing less about what will get them likes and what won’t, they will focus more on the content they truly want to create, which should usually lead to better content. You may not stress over likes, but it is indeed a serious problem, social media has been linked to countless cases of mental illness ranging from all over the board. On the flip side, it could cause a whole other slew of mental illness problems, you know like people upset that people don’t know how much other people think their cool, lol. Which leads us into the next segment.

Why this is a bad thing: This can be bad for a number of reasons, which can vary depending on who you are. For example, the people that already do well on the platform are not going to like this move because there going to want everyone to see how well their content is performing, that their not some digital bum. Social Media has made some people incredibly vain. Nick Minaj tweeted this about the topic:

“I’m not posting on IG after this week cuz they removing the likes,” she wrote on Twitter. “Hmmmm what should I get into now? Think of all the time I’ll have with my new life.”

Who knows her exact reasoning? But I mean what else could it be. Thats what these social media platforms have turned into, who can get the most likes.

As I brushed on earlier and just above, this could unintentionally cause new mental health issues as funny as that sounds, but young people may be too deep in this digital age and require the validation that social media engagement provides, and although they will still be able to see their engagement, the fact that others can’t could have a psychological effect, I can already see people posting stats for the content in the comments, “I swear it didn’t flop”, lol. This would be extreme cases, but they do exist.

Whats This Mean? End of The World? It means a few things, your not going to be able to gauge how well your content is doing compared to another piece of content. You won’t be able to as effectively tell whether or not something is working well or not for a post. You won’t be able to get mad that a piece of content that you deem inferior to yours is performing better. Those are habits Instagram’s trying to get rid of, don’t worry about what works for others, find what works for you, be original, there’s more to it obviously but I like to look at it like that and encourage everyone to do the same.

Other social networks have made comment about testing the same type of thing, social media could be changing right before our eyes.

Why Everyone Should Do Affiliate/Influencer Marketing in 2020

What is Affiliate Marketing? And why everyone, should do it.

So for those who don’t know, Affiliate Marketing is the process of people, such as yourself, earning a commission by promoting other peoples products. It’s very simple to get started, and what most people don’t realize is that ALMOST every company has an affiliate/ambassador program.

The problem with most people’s affiliate marketing strategy is that they grab every link they can to try to earn money, promoting products they don’t believe in or, in many cases, products they don’t even use themselves. This is the wrong way to do affiliate marketing.

The correct way to go about this, is to not pursue affiliate marketing with the intent of making money but with the intent of connecting people with products you care about and believe in. That’s the number one principle I want to stress, only promote products you believe in.

Remember how I said ALMOST every company has an affiliate program, well this is where my belief that everyone should be doing affiliate marketing comes in to play. Think of all your favorite products, that you probably already recommend to people. Now think if you could earn a small commission for recommending those products you love to the world. Getting paid for something you are already doing sounds good to me.

Take this for example:

Your Favorite Products:

Facial Hair Care: Dollar Shave Club
Coffee: Madrinas Coffee
Shoes: Margarittaville
Software: Adobe
App: Flume
Drink: Bang

All very different products, from very different companies, all of which offer affiliate programs. This example helps reinforce the idea that ALMOST every company offers a program like this. You need to get started! You’re not going to get rich, but if you have substantial traffic, you can make quite a bit, and every bit counts. I see no reason why anyone wouldn’t want to make money for recommending products they love to other people.

How to Become an Affiliate?

Getting Started is easy enough. Take into account everything we have said above, and remember our example as a guide to get you started. Sit down, and think of products and companies you use on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis that you love so much you believe the world needs to know about and people need to buy it. Create a list of all your favorites, break it down into categories if that helps; such as favorite foods, Favorite Technology Company, Favorite Drink, Your Favorite shoe company, etc.

Once you have a list of all your favorites, simply go to, type “YOUR FAVORITE COMPANY/PRODUCT” “Affiliate Program” and hit enter. No doubt a link will come up that will direct you to a page where you can register for an account as an affiliate, after which, you will gain access to unique links that you will use to direct people to landing pages of your favorite products where they can make a purchase. If they make a purchase, you make a commission on that sale. The programs will have dashboards where you can track your traffic and earnings so things are nice and organized.

How to Promote My Product Links?

You can promote your links in a number of different ways; on social media, websites and blogs, in person, anything you can think of. The most important aspect of promoting your links is to come off as genuine and organic as possible, the less it feels like an ad the better. Don’t just be posting your links saying; “but this!, buy this!”. Needs a little more finesse than that. You need to incorporate these products in to your content nonchalantly, its the best way to do it, although some influencers have forgot this and just run straight up ads for the products, we are looking at you Bang Energy Girls. This type of promotion can be looked at negatively as it reminds the user of the once organic no businesses presence ecosystem Instagram or Facebook use to provide.

So everything is about fluid organic product placement within your related niche content. This is why its so important to only promote products you believe in otherwise you come off looking like a d-bag.

Short Answer: | It’s all about the offer! Don’t just advertise your business, provide value to your potential customers!

Expanded: | We have seen many variations of this theme of question, asking about getting results for this or for that, and the answer is more times than not the same. Its all about the offer!!! Yes of course your targeting parameters are a huge factor, your ad copy obviously plays a role, the media(image or video) you use with your ad is very important. But the most important thing that you need to consider is the offer.

As stated above, you don’t just want to advertise your business, as in just slapping up an ad with your logo talking about what you offer and a link to your website. Thats not going to yield a high CTR. No Clicks = No Conversions.

This is where the offer comes in, the whole “Providing Your Potential Customers with Value” thing. And value can come in so many forms, this is where the creative thinking comes in and you need to value stack different services and resources at a discounted rate or for FREE if you can, but again that depends on the offer. Theres just so many possibilities.

To expand on the “Value Stack”, say your running a promotion for your bar, an “ok” offer could be a no cover charge for the individual, but an even “better” offer would be; No cover charge, 2 free drinks, and a free appetizer(small portion, something easy, low cost). So as you can see the more value stacking the more enticing the offer becomes. Leading to more clicks, more opt-ins for retargeting, which means more conversions, more people at your bar. (They will order more drinks and food after they finish off the free, lol.)

Some could say, “What if they just come for the free stuff and leave?”, to that I say thats not really my problem. LOL, let me explain, the ad gets them there for the free stuff, its then up to the owner to finish the conversion into actual spending via atmosphere, customer service, quality of food, etc. you get my point.

So in conclusion, what we’re saying is, no matter what niche your looking to get results for, our answer will always be the same, because the niche just determines exactly how you will tailor your ad, but the core components stay the same.

At times like this we look to the words of The Godfather: “I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse.”

As far articles, look up as much as you can, and look at the advertising laws for your specific areas to see what work arounds you may need to implement. For example, Facebook will not allow you to advertise tobacco or tobacco related things. Some things you can do, is one, pay an influencer to promote your product and give them a code they can offer to followers to get a discount or something along those lines. You can advertise through podcasts. Advertise locally in older traditional mediums. Those are a few examples, but depending on what advertising platform you plan on using and your specific area, those restrictions and workarounds will vary.

We feel as if a lot of the people making all these boring commercials we see on TV lack vision. The commercials are so stale, so bland, nothing what so ever special or unique or at all remember-able.

Are we saying we can do better? Well yes. Yes we are saying that, in fact, one of our commercials for a local cinema got such praise that a board of design executives for various ad agencies voted our commercial the best and said it beats anything currently on the market. That’s just their opinion, though they are experts, so perhaps we shall take their word for it.

Anyway, like we were saying, what the hell is going on in advertising lately, no ones thinking outside the box, or creating anything original or interesting. So when we do actually see a good ad, its quite refreshing and we get really excited. Hence, our new segment, “Top 3 Ads, As of Right Now”.
